In which Blake recounts a great match…

Went to HVW in Hendersonville last night…there I took pictures of a match that rates extremely high on my list…the first singles match between Kirby Mack and Adam Jaxon…semi main-event…ER was the corner man for Kirby, Mr Exodus in Adam’s…nothing against Mr Exodus, but this match started out as just a good time between four friends who had not been in/around the squared circle with each other in a long time.  A few comedic turns by Kirby against Adam, ER jaws with the crowd and paces the ring…a slow escalation in maneuvers with the two cruiserweights…personally for me, I blanked the crowd out for this match, it was great to see these two guys wrestle…the crowd was enjoying the good natured jabs going back and forth.

In an instant though, I saw a drop of blood on Kirby’s chest, I saw no obvious injury to him, so I knew Adam was bleeding…probably nothing major…ER and I both noticed then the smear of blood on Adam’s right arm and shoulder…for a few minutes I could actually not tell where the blood was coming from but then we saw - he had split his lip.  From this point on the perception of playful conviviality between these two disappeared…it became a brutal bloody display…there was a palpable aliveness from the otherwise apathetic crowd…they could tell that this bout had changed.

During the summer, wrestling shows seem to generate incredible amounts of heat, enclosed buildings with antiquated or no air-conditioning, multiple bodies (at times carrying the grime and grit of the day) packed in next to each other, and overhead lighting all contribute to the rise in temperature.  This crowd had a slight reprieve from the heat with a chill through them when they witnessed the back and forth of these two bloody figures.  The blood, spit and sweat were all flying, as now Kirby was also bleeding after suffering a nasty bang on the bridge of his nose.

The crowd collectively let out that “ahh…ohhh” that you make when you watch a bad car wreck or the newest morbid video on YouTube.  Adam won the match, rolled out, helped up and then walked on his own out.  Kirby and ER conferred in the ring.  I am hoping that the pictures I took of this match do it justice for what these two men presented to us.

Foto Flashback update…

Well, it only took me close to seven months but I have finally updated the “Foto Flashback” gallery.  The two pics were taken back in 2005 while at American Pro Wrestling.  They both feature one of our most favorite managers: “Gentleman” James McHone.  If memory serves, McHone managed Ken Magnum, Ostgard and “Romeo” Mark Slain at the time this pics were taken.

Post NWA-C, 5/30…

NWA Charlotte had their first Queen City Tag team tournament this past Saturday…congrats to Steven Walters and Derrick Driver who came home with the trophy and a check for 10,000$ (it wasn’t the giant novelty kind though)…Great seeing the Naturals again, not great seeing Chase threaten to use my camera bag as a weapon…The British Lions are actual subjects of the Crown! (not like some British posers…), I was tempted to pull some Benny Hill type shenanigans at ringside, but I figured it would be too dated for them…Zack apparently suffered a nasty shoulder injury and had to go to hospital, we hope he is okay…III and the Skull Krushers in the ring at the same time was rather imposing looking…I am incredibly jealous of Kirby Mack’s hair, there-I said it…Was treated to supper at the historic Skyland Restaurant in Charlotte - a great spot with a lot of local wrestling history in it…The pictures will be up soon - I took over 400, so there is a bit to go through…

In which Blake endeavors to make “The Machine” happy…

First, we pause for some serious stuff…Friday started for many a long weekend, as Memorial Day is Monday and the unofficial start of summer (my least favorite season)…it is important to remember the reason of Memorial Day, to commemorate the men and women who died while in military service…I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the service members, past and present, who are fans of our little site-God bless you.

Moving to the ‘rassling…this past week has been busy, not so much with the wrestling stuff, but other issues…a couple of schedule changes etc. put me in a position to not be able to attend the return of NWA Charlotte last night…being only a half hour from the office, I decided to return to HVW instead…great to see and talk with some guys that I don’t get to see much anymore - Tom Williams, Nick Wilson, Tim Thomas, Mike McCloud, Dirty, Kris Chrisifix etc…I learned that KJ Flash’s real name is Barry Allen…

Of course I am bias, but the match of the night goes to Adam Jaxon v. Stoney Hooker…good to see Stoney back in the ring after his extended recuperation period…our friends, the Macks and ER were at NWA Charlotte and I hear that they had a great crowd at the show…don’t worry though, I will be there for the inaugural Queen City Tag Team Classic

That is coming up for next Saturday…I may be going to George South’s show “Battle of the Belts“ at West Charlotte High School on Friday, 29 May…

And check it out, our site is worth 1394.30$ according to this site…

In which Blake thought he was going to have to write something else…

Originally this post was going to be about what happened at NWA Charlotte this past Saturday night…things have changed since then, so I’m not going to go into it.  What I will say is that I’m glad JD & Jay are still running…they have both put a lot into the promotion and I’m looking forward to getting back there in May!

I know you are all wondering - where are the pics from the show…don’t worry, I will be starting on them tomorrow (Friday) and will hopefully have them up by the weekend…We’ve been a little busy this week so they have been delayed…

Check out the update at WrestlingSuperstarsLive.com - where our friend Kirby Makc visited Australia to defend his World’s Light Heavyweight Championship…

In which Blake stood for 4+ hours…

My fifth Hardcore Hell this past weekend (read Larry Goodman’s report)…here’s one of the pics from the first one I attended: http://www.flickr.com/photos/blakearledge/1496079307/in/set-72157602272869466/

The show was LONG!  It wasn’t over until about a quarter to midnight…nine matches total…I was wiped out by the main event, almost to the point of just sitting down somewhere and hoping I could get some good shots that way…

The Georgia Street Fight between the teams of New Wave (Derrick Driver & Steven Walters) and Talent/Money (JT Talent & Drew Pendleton) will go down as one of the bloodiest matches I have shot since maybe the cage match between Jake Manning & Bobby Houston in 2007…there were pools of blood everywhere…in the ring…on the floor…the steps…brutal!

Congrats to new Young Lion’s Champ Malachi…new TV champ Shaun Tempers…and kudos to Phill Shatter and Ace Rockwell on a great 28 minute match…

I’m hoping to start working on the photos tonight…this coming Saturday-NWA Charlotte!
