Katrina benefit show

Woof, what a weekend. Saturday night seems like a distant memory now. I do know that I had a great time, it was a very good show. The matches were perfectly timed, and the show actually ended before 11pm.

Got to Westminster at 12.20 on Sunday. Already a good number of people there. I know I will wind up forgetting some people, but for everyone I talked to it was good to see yawl, and the people I didn’t get time to speak to – good to see yawl too!

The crowd was not as high as everyone had hoped it would be but I think everyone had a good time. Lots of new faces, some old faces. Regardless of feelings or any bad blood that may or may not exist (I can never tell) this truly felt like a special occasion to me. These different promoters, and wrestlers all seemed like one big class reunion I suppose. The photo I took from the bleachers of the entire crew looks pretty good.

By now, everybody probably knows about the minor bumps in the road. It didn’t dampen the spirit of the show at all. Sixteen matches. It was cool to see Shannon Moore, he looks much different!

Shane asked me afterward my honest opinion on the show, and I told him that #1 – look at all the cases of water donated! #2 – $$ donated! and #3 (in and of itself) you got all these groups/wrestlers together! I am hoping that we can see more of shows like this in the future. The idea of a ’super show’ appeals to me.

Heading to Greenville tonight for EWC, and hopefully the return of Neil Nitro.

What a great show last night! It moved quite well, quick pacing, and we were done before 11.

James McHone is an ass! Great swerve last night with his little “heart attack”. Did I believe it, sure for a little bit, but that’s what I want at a show.

Big 8 man tag match as the main event, I told the Chief I think that was the first one I had seen at APW. The crowd was really into it also, even though they didn’t know a few of the guys in it.

Today’s the day! The big wrestle fest in Westminster. I’ll be calling Ethan and Ken here in a bit, but will be meeting ER in Mayo-town about 10.45 or so. He and I will be staying for the entire day.

after the Gastonia….

APW in Gastonia at the National Guard Armory last night. Very hot inside…the locker room was nice and cool though….Picked up Ken and his g/f in Spartanburg, ER off 221 and headed down I85. Not a bad crowd, maybe a little less than 100? Not sure, I never did any counting. Unfortunately they did start to trickle out as the show progressed. At one point, I used the phrase “flat-lining” to describe them.

Buffett and Ethan had a good match, couple of points that make you suck the air in through your teeth, both involving their necks, they came crashing down on the heads! I talked to Ethan this morning, he said his is hurting a bit.

Got to meet the extended Buffett clan, SJB’s parents, sister and brother in law. They came all the way from Boone, NC to see the show.

I enjoyed the high spots that Rowdy, Zack and Patrick provided in their match.

Good to see Ace Bullett….I mean, Preston O’Ryan back in the ring.

My God, was it hot last night! Maybe it was just really humid? I wasn’t sweating so much as just roasting, the kind of heat that wears you down totally – makes it even hard to move.

My favorite match was Dirty vs Nick Fury. I like seeing a match like they had. I want the kicks to connect, I want the punches to make me hurt, the chops…all of it. I did notice the fans were sort of turning on Nick?

The Ken/Ethan feud went as far as it should have last night, a double count out. So far so good.

Shane says that Mickey Richards thinks he’s Boogie Woogie Man now…..Now? I thought he was always like that, brutha brutha brutha….

The benefit show sounds like it is shaping up very well. 120 talents, around 30 matches!

McHone said he had me figured out last night, that Senator Ted Kennedy was a little right of me…..I told him that that would be really left! But he’s right, I’m left…though that’s not for here or there.

I’m a few pages from finishing Steve Regal’s book…..I still have Bill Clinton’s to finish, the John Zaffis book (who I saw on an episode of Sci-Fi Channel’s Ghost Hunters the other night), and a new one called Unbridled Rage: A True Story of Organized Crime, Corruption and Murder in Chicago by Gene O’Shea.

It has been a event filled weekend (on a couple of levels), some of you know why, for those of you that don’t….well I’m not saying on here….I may be going out on a limb here, but sometimes life is like a poorly written soap-opera – the characters settle on small, insignificant baubles – minor dramas, scenarios that hold no significance to anyone other than those who create them or those who follow blindly…I have to remind myself at times to concentrate on what is truly important in my life and remember: “May your pleasures be many, and your troubles be few”

I may try to hit the EWC show this Tuesday…..there is APW in Gastonia on Friday, APW back in Spartanburg on Saturday and then the big show on Sunday in Westminster!

post HVW

I am running behind on handling the pictures. I still need to post up the ones from EWC from last Tuesday, then HVW from last night. The earliest these may be available is Sunday night. Went to HVW last night. Bill Hazelwood wasn’t there, DJ Ray wasn’t (which I believe he had a family medical issue to deal with). Ken wound up taking over the announcing duties and did a pretty funny job. The best line was to our long suffering fan, Edna: “Edna, why don’t you tell these people what it was like to babysit Abraham Lincoln?”

Mr. Electricity, the new HVW champion….from Mexico….yes……well, anyway he dances quite well…..

I’m reading Steve Regal’s book (I don’t like to call him Wm.) “Walking a Golden Mile”

I’m watching “My Life on the D List” on Bravo….I never really got into Kathy Griffin, but I love this show!

The show ended before midnight last night…..Good show…..
I liked the six man between the EOD and Nick Fury/Kaos/Dark Lion……lots of action going on, I told Ref Robert that I would have better luck getting pictures by getting in the ring, because they stayed out of it the majority of the time…..Jimmy Kindrid suffered a nasty little gash on his head near the end of the match…I think his head got to close to some hardware…….

ER types out a good Warrior impression, but in person it’s much funnier…..the snort is great……

Glad to see Ethan and Ken start their angle together….Of course I am biased, but I think the powers that be need to let this play out the way that Ken and Ethan want to do it, they can make this good if they are given the opportunity…..

I heard that Neil Nitro made his return to the ring last night in McAdenville, NC….glad to hear it, looking forward to seeing him back around here……

I saw Mama Fury last night…..I think the last time I saw her at a match, she was tossing her shoe at Rev. Slim in Chesnee!

Here is a picture of the most accident prone person in the Upstate! I’m joking of course, it’s Bryan Austin with his injured leg….I was giving him hell last night at the show, but I do wish him a speedy recovery…..

BBC America is having a Benny Hill marathon today, and I’m missing it!

I’m planning to attend the Colfax Free Fair in Ellenboro on Wednesday and Thursday……

post AWC

Went to AWC in Greenville last night…..It was a fun show, much cheaper to get in too! Stoney – “Livewire” from HVW was there, Viper, Vicious V, Mr Terrific, and Bryan Austin also…..The first match Bryan got thrown out of the ring, and his foot/ankle landed straight on the ring barrier….looked bad, they were afraid that he had broken it, but I understand that it isn’t…..Man, that boy is accident prone!

Thomas Simpson got a little bloody in their match, and his routine with the hot dog really endeared the crowd to him, har!

I think the phrase “small paw” is funny….

Afterwards, had a late night supper of some weenys….thanks homie!

Finally got word that the big Katrina benefit show is going to be held in Westminster, SC at the West Oak High School. I’m afraid I have never heard of Westminster. I will be there though, very much looking forward to it…..

Very good show last night, for the same reason the HVW show was good – the crowd wanted to be entertained…they were tired of hearing about high gas prices and the Katrina disaster…they were hot all the way through….The “Deacon Donnie” bit with Slim, McHone and Eagle was especially thunderous in the crowd reaction…..Pleased to finally meet Thomas Simpson, Krazy K and Dexter Poindexter…..Dex has great entrance music!
Poor ER! Honest Doug whacked him over the head with the timekeepers bell…..I’m sorry, it was funny….of course I don’t wish any long term effects….
Very long show again last night, didn’t end until almost midnight…..but hey, the crowd stayed with it again….
Shane announced the news of the benefit show that is going to take place in a few weeks….I think it’s a good idea….and as mentioned on the Regal board, I think the media outlets need to be notified….get the word out! It will bring together 4 different wrestling promotions for a one day show….WWC from Greenville, SWA from Hendersonville, APW from Spartanburg, and IWA from Williamston (? I think, they run shows in GA too)….Very much looking forward to shooting the show..
Ethan is back from his hunting holiday, and ready to get back in the ring…
I talked to a friend of mine over the weekend who is continuing to keep his life on a positive path, I’m still sending vibes your way for your continued success!
