Rise of a Champion IV…

Photos from Carolina Wrestling Association’s “Rise of a Champion IV” last night in Statesville, NC are now online.

http://ringsidephotos.net/cwa_22308.htm

ROAC is the WrestleMania for CWA – endings and beginnings. Last night was no different. Great crowd and great action in the ring.

All titles changed hands: “The Obsession” Caleb Konley won back the Ultra J title with his feet on the ropes against champion Kamikazi Kid and Stoney Hooker – this marked the return of Derek Ryze to CWA, as he pulled Stoney out of the ring during the match and incapacitated him. Good to see Derek back at the show. Charlie Dreamer regained the CWA title from Jesse Ortega in a solid technical match. Match of the night though was The Elite Icons of Joey Silvia and Jake Manning taking on Team Macktion in a steel cage for the CWA tag titles and also careers on the line. Special guest ref was Dave Hebner, who was a true gentleman. I have seen Dave at some of the UWF shows, but this was the first time I had been able to really work with him.

There were four photographers at the show – it had a “Japanese” feel to it for sure. This was truly one of the top CWA shows I have seen. To all involved, keep up the good work.

Check out my first fan sign: http://ringsidephotos.net/images/022308_117.JPG

Thanks Tyler, it got you back online.   Check out the other signs they had on the photo page.

You will also notice I have busted my streak of waiting up to week to begin work on updates, please don’t get used to it.

Next show is CWA again, this time in Myrtle Beach, SC on 8 March.

In which Blake unveils a new gallery…

Today I’m starting a new gallery on the site called “Foto Flashback” – I decided that since I’m only going to be shooting about a show a month, I would add this to the site as sort of something “new” to see when the three of you visit…I will update it every few weeks, and I’ll be going back to the early days of RSP.net – 2004!  Yes, that long ago.  Hope you all enjoy…feedback welcomed…

In which Blake acknowledges his antediluvian slant…

Subtitled: ”…and is also really bored at work…”

So first the title, I heartily accede to the indictment that I am an 75 year old man in a (not so) younger body.  It’s not that I am old fashioned in every aspect of my life.  I still consider myself an unabashed hedonist.

It is true that on the days that I have to work, I am in bed usually by or before 9.30pm the night previous…I like watching old TV shows…especially old game shows, like “What’s My Line” and “I’ve Got A Secret“…I love the smell of pipe tobacco…I use BrylCreem and Vitalis Tonic (with V7!) in my rapidly fleeing hair…I was in Shangri-la watching Mad Men on AMC.

My affinity of all this “old stuff” is partly what drove me into signing up for barber school, starting March 12-stay tuned…

Next weekend is CWAs “Rise of a Champion IV” in Statesville, NC.  Looking forward to that.  Earl Hebner will be there!  Check out their revamped site here: http://cwawrestlingonline.com/

Just finished reading “Here’s Morgan: The Original Bad Boy of Broadcasting” by Henry Morgan…regular cast member of the above mentioned “I’ve Got a Secret”…read about him here:

Currently reading “The Groucho Letters: Letters From & To Groucho Marx” - and it’s an first printing hardcover from 1967.

In which Blake gets a shave…

You read correctly…I finally found a barber shop that will do shaves!  The “Mug & Brush” barber shop in Hendersonville, NC at 407 Kanuga Road.  Get Derek in the center chair – he did a great job.

I talked with him a bit about starting school in March between the applications of hot shaving foam and hot towel.  The straight razor wasn’t bad at all – and no cuts or injuries.  I also realized that the area on my face that I think I always miss is really just difficult to shave as he pointed this out.  A splash of Sea Breeze and I was ready to go.

If you have never had one, I highly recommend it – it’s nice to be pampered a little.  Plus if you go to Hendersonville, it’s walking distance to the “Hot Dog King” for a tasty grilled cheeseburger.
