PWI 500 & FanFest…

The PWI 500 is now on newsstands – pick it up!  Not only does it feature some of our local talent (Kirby Mack 454, TJ Mack 461, Austin Creed 195, Truitt Fields 352, Mikal Judas 463, Phill Shatter 464) but also features a few of my photos!  Can you find them?

This week I will be returning to HVW in Hendersonville, NC.  I last shot there in November of 2006 I believe.  Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces at the Larry Bell Tag Team Tournament.

Now on to FanFest.  What a spectacular time.  ER and I arrived on Thursday evening and left Sunday night after the matches.

-I feel so cool- Malachi, Box Boy John, and Reginald Vanderhoff did not “shank” me!

-Got to spend the majority of Friday with Michael “PS” Hayes and Ric Flair!  Yeah!  Thank you Greg for that incredible opportunity.  The past couple of weeks have been really great for the fanboy side of RSPDN- one week with Ricky Steamboat, the next with the Nature Boy.

-There are rumors of a YouTube video that will soon be posted of me be awoken by ER and Box Boy John.  Pay attention to it, it was not me in the bed.

-Fanfest ran very smoothly this year, thanks to the fans, and all the staff of the show-Tommy G, Jimmy Kimmel, Brandon, Heather, Leigh, Mitch, Emily, Glute and everybody else I have forgotten.  Pleasure to work with you all and looking forward to doing it again.

-1200 photo ops were printed on Friday alone!

-Good to see the Mid Atlantic Mafia out in full force.

-Thanks to “Indy” Ron for picking my supper up on Saturday night.

IT…has arrived!

Received today from our friend, Dave Millican – THE “Ace of Belts” my very own replica of the Jerry Lawler Unified World title…yes, the belt that caught my eyes many years ago in the pages of Pro Wrestling Illustrated is now in my little soft hands.

A thousand thank yous to Dave – it is a superb belt.

Here is Lawler with the belt, I unfortunately cannot find the photo that first caught my eye, but Lawler had on the crown, a red “King” shirt, the AWA World title on one shoulder, the WCCW title on the other and the Unified title around his waist.

And here they are:

NWA brings back the Red Belt…

60thRedBeltWeb.jpg

From www.nwawrestling.com

The Return to of the Red Belt
Charlotte, NC (July 31, 2008) – Earlier this summer, the National Wrestling Alliance® launched the NWA™ 60th Anniversary Celebration to be celebrated by pro wrestling fans and Member Promotions worldwide. In keeping with our yearlong theme and in honor of our 60th Anniversary, the NWA has recreated the legendary “red” World’s Heavyweight Title Belt to award to the holder of the most prestigious title in wrestling history, the NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion.

The original “red belt” was presented to then-champion Harley Race by NWA president Sam Muchnick in 1973, and was the original incarnation of the current “Dome Globe” or “Famous 10 lbs. of gold.” Jack Brisco and Giant Baba also held the “red belt”, before disappearing from public view.

The new “red belt” will be presented to our current champion, “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce, prior to his August 2, 2008 title match with challenger, Brent Albright, to take place in New York City. The NWA champion will then hold the title during the remainder of the 60th Anniversary celebration.
